Caleigh and Austin’s Bryce Canyon elopement is a story that feels like it kept gently unfolding in its own timing. Like life was rerouting them the entire time toward exactly what they actually wanted. Caleigh first reached out in early 2025 when she and Austin were planning a trip out to Utah. They had their hearts set on engagement photos at the Salt Flats, and honestly, I was so excited from the start. There’s just something about meeting couples who are already in love with the landscape here before you even meet them in person.
They flew in from Connecticut, and from the moment we met, it felt like hanging out with old friends. They’re playful, high-energy, and super easy to laugh with. The kind of couple who will fully lean into the moment without overthinking it. We spent their session running around the Salt Flats, chasing light, and just having the best time.
At the end of the shoot, Caleigh casually asked what it would look like to elope in Bryce Canyon National Park. We talked through it briefly, and I told her I’d send over my info when I got home. It felt like one of those “maybe someday” conversations.
A few weeks later, they let me know that they had decided to go a more traditional wedding route back on the East Coast in New Jersey, where they often vacation with family. We stayed in touch on Instagram, and I loved seeing their Salt Flats photos become part of their engagement announcements.
Then, in August, Caleigh texted me out of nowhere: “What would it look like if we eloped in Bryce Canyon in three weeks?” Their original venue in New Jersey had been damaged by a hurricane, and suddenly everything shifted. And instead of spiraling, Caleigh said something that really stuck with me: this felt like what they wanted all along. Bryce Canyon had always been their place.
We planned their entire elopement in about three weeks. It was just me and a videographer for the day: simple and sweet and really focused on what mattered most to them.
They stayed at Under Canvas near Bryce Canyon, which ended up being the perfect cozy base for the morning. We started the day there with getting ready photos, slow moments, and a first look right outside their tent. From there, we headed into Bryce Canyon National Park for portraits. The timing worked out beautifully with golden light starting to settle in, and we spent time wandering, stopping wherever felt right, and letting the scenery do what it does best.
Because everything came together last minute, they chose not to go through the special use permit process in the park, so we kept their official ceremony for a nearby location instead! We made our way to Kodachrome Basin State Park for their vows, and it ended up being one of my favorite ceremony settings I’ve ever photographed.
It’s a little quieter than the national park, a little less expected, and completely stunning in its own right. The landscape feels open and warm and textured in a way that photographs so beautifully. Their ceremony was small, emotional, and really heartfelt. Caleigh and Austin have known each other since high school—starting off as friends, becoming close after graduation, and eventually realizing it had become more. They’ve walked through a LOT together, including Caleigh’s cancer journey, and you can feel that depth in the way they show up for each other.
And in a moment that perfectly sums up how supported they were all day, we needed witnesses for their marriage license—and instead of stress or scrambling, our videographer signed, I officiated, and a park ranger named Valerie kindly stepped in as the second witness. It felt so serendipitous and community-driven in the best way.
Their elopement was short and simple in structure, but incredibly full in meaning. It wasn’t about checking boxes or doing things a certain way, it was about finally landing in the place they had been drawn to all along. From Salt Flats engagement photos to a last-minute Bryce Canyon elopement, their story is proof that plans can change, timelines can shift, and you can still end up exactly where you’re supposed to be. And getting to be there for it—from the beginning of their Utah visits to this deeply intentional day in the desert—was something I won’t forget.I’d love to be a witness to your unique love story and the way your wedding day unfolds.
