Cannon Beach is one of the most iconic locations on the Oregon coast, making it an unforgettable choice for your elopement. Known for its stunning shoreline and the towering beauty of Haystack Rock, this location offers a mix of dramatic landscapes and serene coastal charm. The soft sand, rolling waves, and breathtaking sunsets create a romantic setting perfect for intimate ceremonies.
Distance from Portland: Just 1.5 hours away, making it an easy and accessible destination for your elopement.
Permits & Passes: If your elopement includes fewer than 50 people, you won’t need a permit! For larger gatherings, you can access the necessary permit information here. Some locations may also require a $5 day-use pass, so be sure to check ahead.

Cape Kiwanda is a stunning spot for an adventurous elopement, featuring golden sand dunes, dramatic cliffs, and the iconic sandstone headland overlooking the Pacific. Known as part of Oregon’s “Three Capes Scenic Route,” this area offers breathtaking views and a chance to spot gray whales year-round. It’s also fantastic for tide-pooling in the morning an is gorgeous at sunrise or sunset.
Distance from Portland: 2 hours, but worth the drive!
Permits & Passes: $10 day-use pass for parking and entry. There is no permit needed for elopements under 50 people!
Dog-Friendly: Dogs must be leashed but are welcome!
God’s Thumb is a hidden gem on the Oregon coast, offering a unique and breathtaking elopement location. This dramatic grassy headland resembles a giant thumb jutting out into the Pacific, providing panoramic ocean views and a sense of serene seclusion. Accessible via a scenic hike through lush coastal forest, the journey to God’s Thumb is as memorable as the destination. Fun fact: the area gets its name from its distinctive shape, making it a quirky and unforgettable spot to say “I do” for adventurous couples.
Distance from Portland: 2 hours
Hike Information: Typically takes 2-3 hours round trip, depending on your pace and how long you’ll want to stop for! It is a 4 mile out and back trail that is moderately challenging, but worth the dramatic view at the end! This trail can be a bit confusing, so if you’re wanting to elope here, let me be your elopement guide!

Why Elope in Brookings, Oregon?
