If you’re new here, welcome friend! And if you found your way to this corner of the internet because you’re dreaming of saying “I do” in the picture-perfect, otherworldly state that is Washington, I’m so excited to help make the process feel less intimidating! Because this state is popular (for good reason), finding the best spot among alllll the choices can feel pretty overwhelming. But in the past few years exploring the northwest, I’ve truly found some of THE best spots and a wealth of tips on how to elope in Washington.
SO…if you’re dreaming of saying “I do” in a misty rainforest, beneath the shadow of a glacier-covered volcano, or next to an alpine lake framed by wildflowers…read on. 🙂 Washington has some of the most incredible landscapes in the country, making it an absolute paradise for anyone wanting a wild, adventurous elopement day that feels as breathtaking and unique as your love story.
I am truly obsessed with documenting intimate, intentional days in wild places, and I hope I can make it easier for you and your partner to say “yes” to something untraditional. Read on for my full guide on planning your Washington elopement: whether you want a short trail and picnic or a full-day hiking adventure to a fire lookout, Washington has something magical waiting for you.
Let’s dive in!
Washington is home to three gorgeous National Parks, rugged coastlines, glacier-capped peaks, lush rainforests and more. AND my all time favorite national parks—Mount Rainier and Olympic—are both here, and each offers a totally unique experience.
And one of the best parts of eloping here? You can easily plan a multi-day elopement and experience wildly different backdrops: like saying your vows in a lush rainforest or amidst mountain peaks, and still ending the day with a cozy picnic dinner watching the sunset on the coast.
Before we jump into some of my favorite spots, here are a few big things to keep in mind:
Most locations (especially within National Parks or Wilderness Areas) require a Special Use Permit for ceremonies or photography. They can also vary a bit depending on your guest count, activities, and time of year. For the more popular areas like Olympic National Park or Mount Rainier, make sure you’re applying at least 4–6 months in advance. I’ll do my best to link directly to each park’s permit info below!
Not every location requires a hike! There are sooo many gorgeous spots with easy-to-access overlooks, short trails, and picnic areas for guests with limited mobility. So don’t rule out the PNW if you aren’t the adrenaline junky type! This state truly has something for everyone.
Now that we’ve covered some basics, let’s break down some of the most scenic and adventure-friendly elopement spots.
Mount Rainier National Park is an adventure elopement paradise. Towering wildflower meadows, ancient forests, turquoise alpine lakes, and of course, the iconic, snow-capped Mount Rainier watching over it all. And it’s easy to find the perfect activity, no matter what your level of hiking comfortability may be. There are tons of easy-access views and full-day hikes for the couples ready to lace up their boots. With its mix of moody PNW vibes and some high-alpine drama, it’s the perfect spot for couples who want their elopement to feel wild, intimate, adventurous, and unforgettable.
Permit Required: You can find the Mt Rainier Special Use Permit info here.
Best Time to Elope: July–September (most trails are snow-free)
Timed Entry Reservation: This is required at Paradise and Sunrise areas during summer! Which just means you’ll need to make a reservation in advance to enter the park.
Best Spots:
Note: Rainier is especially breathtaking during peak wildflower season (late July to early August), but be sure to plan ahead for weather and permits!
The Mount Baker Wilderness is one of Washington’s best-kept secrets for adventure elopements! With fewer crowds than some of the more well-known parks, it’s perfect for couples craving solitude, epic scenery, and that wild, off-the-beaten-path feel. Tons of dramatic mountain views, sprawling wildflower meadows, crystal-clear alpine lakes, and rugged trails that feel like your own private escape.
Permit Info: Most trails are in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, which often only requires a photography or group use permit if the party exceeds 75 people, but it’s best to check with the local ranger station.
Best Time: July–October
Best Spots:
Note: Wildflower season in the Mt. Baker area peaks in late July to early August.
Though I haven’t shot here (yet!!), this park is often referred to as the “American Alps” and is such a hidden gem for adventurous couples looking to escape the crowds. It has some incredible jagged peaks, turquoise alpine lakes, and remote, wild vibes. It’s perfect for couples who want a secluded, nature-immersed elopement. More to come here! 🙂
Permit Info: You can find North Cascades Permit info here.
Best Time: July–September
Olympic National Park is the quintessentially PNW backdrop with its mossy forests, rugged coastlines with plenty of rolling fog, and epic sunsets. Its wild, untamed beauty and sense of seclusion make it such an incredible place if you’re wanting to ditch tradition and create an intimate, nature-filled day that’s truly your own.
Honestly, this park is so unique and diverse that it really deserves its own guide, which I’ll be publishing soon! But for now, here’s a quick snapshot of what makes Olympic so magical:
Note: Stay tuned for the full Olympic National Park Elopement Guide, coming soon!
Note: Even though you’ll absolutely get 4 or 8 hours of continuous coverage from me, that doesn’t mean we have to have a camera in your face the whole time! 🙂 I want your day to feel as comfortable, free and relaxed as possible…so we’ll take breaks whenever ya need them.
Elopement days are more than just a ceremony. They’re an intentional, intimate, unique experience. Whether you want to kayak on Crescent Lake, stargaze at Mt. Fremont, or share a first dance on a mountain ridge, your day can reflect exactly who you are as a couple and what makes you two feel alive!
I started my photography business because I wanted to turn my love for connection and honest storytelling into something that helps couples celebrate their love, their way. Your love deserves a day that feels as genuine and unforgettable as the life you’re building together.
And an unexpectedly rewarding part of the job has been the ability to not just take photos, but help build your perfect day and ease the stress of the planning process. So whether you already have an exact spot in mind or want help choosing the perfect place, it would be an absolute honor to help you plan an unforgettable elopement experience in Washington. From scouting locations to capturing all the big and in-between moments, I can guide you every step of the way!
